Wednesday, August 2: Seamus Kirst
As the valedictorian of his high school class, Seamus appeared to be a high achieving, well adjusted teen. Yet, underneath the surface he was struggling immensely. By the time he walked the stage at 18, he had been to the ER twice for overdosing on pills, had been hospitalized multiple times for alcohol poisoning, and had completed in- and out-patient rehab programs for alcohol. The situation only accelerated at Brown University, where he abused a plethora of drugs, from Xanax to cocaine, while his alcohol abuse intensified. When he was 22, just after graduating college, he realized that he was going to die if he didn't stop drinking. He published his memoir, Shitfaced: Musings of a Former Drunk, in early 2017, and has written about mental health and substance abuse issues for Teen Vogue, Upworthy, Advocate.com, The Huffington Post, The Mighty, and his personal blog:

More about your hostPaul Gilmartin
From 1995 to 2011 Paul Gilmartin co-hosted TBS’ Dinner and a Movie, and has been a stand-up comedian since 1987. His credits include Comedy Central Presents: Paul Gilmartin. Paul was thrilled to be diagnosed with clinical depression in 1999 because it meant he wasn’t just an asshole. By 2003, he realized he was still an asshole and an alcoholic. Since 2003 he has been sober, mostly happy, and a tiny bit less of an asshole.
